System Requirements

Basic Equipment

You will need the following items to connect to a WAZMetro wireless network:

Operating System

Kite Networks suggests one of the following operating systems:
  • Windows XP, any version
  • Macintosh OS-X version 10.3 or later
  • Linux
Other operating systems may be used if they can provide a necessary device driver for the wireless network card and if the manufacturer or the wireless network card can provide an adequate supplicant application.

Wireless Network Cards

If you will be accessing our services with a computer, you will need a wireless network card (aka "wireless NIC"). While the NIC can be an internal or external NIC, it must support either the 802.11b standard (sometimes simply referred to as a "Wireless-B card") or the 802.11g standard (sometimes simply referred to as a "Wireless-G card"). This specification will be listed prominently on the NICs package if you purchase one from a store or, for example, it will be listed as part of your laptop's features. Airport Card for Macintosh computers is a 802.11G card.

Recommended Wireless Network Cards
For better speed and reception, we strongly recommend an 802.11G card such as the Airlink Super-G card.

Other Supported Wireless Devices

The VOIP (Voice Over IP) portion of our service will support any SIP-compliant device. We only permit the use of VOIP devices on our dedicated VOIP VLAN. It is not permitted on our data only SSID. See price plans and directions for connecting your VOIP service.

Web Browser

You will need a web browser to successfully login to the WAZ network. The following web browsers are known to work correctly with the WAZ login servers:
  • Mozilla Firefox, version 1.0.3 and later
  • Safari, version 1.0 and later
  • Internet Explorer, version 5.5 and later
  • Netscape, version 7.1 and later
  • Konquerer, version 3.4 and later (with OpenSSL)
  • Opera, version 5 and later
For a browser to correctly work, it must support the current implementation/support of cookies, javascript, HTTP/1.1, SSL/TLS (HTTPS), tables, and forms.
